The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council Welcoming Environment Subcommittee assessed current perceptions of Pratt and identified what is needed to create a more welcoming environment, one in which everyone is treated with respect and professionalism, ideas are freely expressed, and differences are accepted and valued. The following six goals were developed around themes of respect, access, communication, and transparency. To support these goals, the Pratt Community Standards were also updated in 2018 for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Ensure that all students and faculty feel valued and respected in every Pratt classroom and studio.

  • Promote a learning environment that supports students, faculty, and staff in order to facilitate student success.

  • Increase financial support for students with fewer resources.

  • Improve communication and transparency across all levels of the institution.

  • Develop an institution-wide staff onboarding process.

  • Increase social and professional interactions and engagement among staff and faculty across the institution.

Results as of Academic Year 2020:

  • Reconvened the Bias Education Response Task Force 

  • Administered Mandatory Harassment and Discrimination training for all Faculty and Staff

  • Administered Mandatory EVERFI DEI for Students Online Training Course

  • Launched the Pratt Food Pantry Program 

  • Administered the Campus Climate Survey for students, faculty and staff

  • Established the Student Government Association DEI Chair role

  • Established the Student Diversity Advisory Board

  • Appointed a Senior Student Advocate & Care Coordinator

  • Appointed an Assistant Vice Provost for Campus Safety & Preparedness

  • Hosted Center for Teaching and Learning Forums and Workshops

  • Hosted Federal Work-Study Job Fairs

  • Launched the Pratt Staff Council

  • Launched the DEI Allies Training Certificate Program

  • Created the Student Supply Fund

  • Created the Student Support Grant

  • Hosted Indigenous Knowledge and Land Recognition Workshop

  • Launched Human Resources Onboarding Committee

  • Created Online Bias, Discrimination & Sexual Misconduct Incident Report Form

  • Developed Inclusive Terminology, LGBTQ+ and Anti-Racism Resource Guides
