PRATT'S 2019 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY IS AT 10 AM ON MONDAY, MAY 20, 2019, AT RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL IN NEW YORK CITY
Watch the livestream of Commencement on the day of the event.
You must apply for graduation in order to receive Commencement updates and instructions, to graduate, and to receive your diploma. Keep in mind that Graduation and Commencement are separate events. Graduation is the administrative process of completing your degree program and awarding your degree. Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates this achievement. Your participation in the ceremony does not necessarily mean that you have graduated. Details about the ceremony will be sent to students who applied for graduation in a Student Information Packet.
Fill out and submit your Graduation Application through Student Self Service by the following dates:
Summer 2018 / October 2018 Graduates
March 25, 2018
Fall 2018 / February 2019 Graduates
August 25, 2018
Spring 2019 / May 2019 Graduates
December 15, 2018
Students do not officially graduate from Pratt Institute until they have applied for graduation and completed all degree requirements as defined in their degree audit. They must remain in good academic standing. Students with a hold on their record will graduate but they may not be eligible to receive their diploma until all holds have been resolved.
Permission to Walk in Commencement
Students completing their requirements for graduation after May 2019 (Summer or Fall 2019 graduates) should walk in the commencement Ceremony held in May 2020. Their names will be listed in the 2020 Commencement Program. Students completing the Permission to Walk in Commencement 2019 form are requesting to walk earlier than their May 2020 Commencement Ceremony and will not have their names printed in the 2019 Commencement Program. Complete the form, attach the Degree Audit, and submit to the Registrar’s Office (email@example.com). The deadline to apply for Permission to Walk is March 8, 2019.
Radio City Music Hall is located at 1260 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) between W. 50th St. and W. 51st St. Radio City does not provide parking. Visit the Radio City Music Hall website for information on transportation options and parking facilities.
The Ceremony will be at 10 AM. Students must arrive at 8 AM for check-in. Students arriving late will NOT be seated with the graduates and will NOT be allowed to walk on stage. Please note that all participants will be required to stay until the end of the Ceremony.
All participants will be required to show Pratt ID and must be wearing their Cap and Gown. Participants do not need a ticket; however, Radio City security will not permit ceremony participants to enter the Music Hall without graduation regalia and Pratt identification. Guests will not be allowed to enter with participants—doors will open to guests at 9 AM.
NO HANDBAGS, FLOWERS, BACKPACKS, BAGS, COATS, SWEATERS, WRAPPED GIFTS, or other items will be allowed. Leave all personal belongings with your guests.
All guests are required to have a ticket (including infants) to enter Radio City Music Hall. All students participating in May Commencement can pick up 3 guest tickets at the Graduation Fair. HOLD ON TO YOUR TICKETS – we cannot replace them!
Island Photography is the official photographer for the Pratt Commencement Ceremony. Graduates will be able to schedule an appointment for their graduation portrait at the Graduation Fair through the Island Photography website.
Radio City Music Hall only allows guests to take pictures from their seats. Island Photography will take two types of photographs at the ceremony—first, a candid picture of the graduate shaking hands with President Francis Bronet, and second, a portrait of the graduate on stage.
Academic Regalia (cap and gown) is required to participate in the Commencement Ceremony and to enter Radio City without a guest ticket. All gowns are made from recycled materials. All regalia must be purchased online from our vendor, Herff Jones. Associates and Bachelors regalia sets (cap and gown) cost $60.00. Masters regalia sets (cap, gown, and hood) cost $70.00.
Online ordering for campus pick-up is open until March 15, 2019.
Students may request that Herff Jones ship their cap and gown to their home address for an additional fee of $15.95. Online ordering for home delivery is open until April 5, 2019. All deliveries will be sent via FedEx Smart Post (P.O. Boxes permitted). Questions may be addressed to our local Herff Jones representative Paul Reilly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
No ordering of regalia is possible after April 5, 2019. You must order regalia by this date to indicate that you plan to attend the Commencement ceremony on May 20. If you are borrowing a friend’s regalia to wear in the ceremony, you MUST notify the Office of the Registrar by April 5. Please send an email from your Pratt email account to email@example.com.
