Participation in the Commencement Ceremony does NOT mean you have graduated. Commencement exercises are ceremonial and symbolic. Your participation in the Commencement Ceremony should not be confused with your actual graduation from the Institute.

Students do not officially graduate from Pratt Institute until they have applied for graduation and completed all degree requirements as defined in their degree audit. They must remain in good academic standing. Students with a hold on their record will graduate but they may not be eligible to receive their diploma until all holds have been resolved.

Permission to Walk in Commencement 2018

Students completing their requirements for graduation after May 2018 (Summer or Fall 2018) should walk in the commencement Ceremony held in May 2019.  Their names will be listed in the 2019 Commencement Program. Students completing the Permission to Walk in Commencement 2018 form are requesting to walk earlier than their May 2018 Commencement Ceremony and will not have their names printed in the 2018 Commencement Program. Complete the form and attach the Degree Audit, and submit to the Registrar’s Office ( The deadline to apply for Permission to Walk is March 5, 2018.

Who can participate in the May 2018 ceremony?

The students who graduated in summer semester 2017, fall semester 2017, and students who are candidates for graduation at the end of spring semester 2018 are invited to participate in the Commencement Ceremony held on May 16, 2018.

Where is the ceremony?

The Ceremony will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

What time is the Ceremony?
The Ceremony will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 16. The Ceremony generally lasts approximately two to three hours and participants will be required to stay until the end of the Ceremony.
How will I get in? Do I need a ticket?

If you are walking in the ceremony, you do not need a ticket. You MUST BE WEARING your cap and gown to enter Radio City Music Hall.

What about tickets for my guests?

All available guest tickets to the 2018 Commencement ceremony were given away at the Graduation Fair, but we are working hard to accommodate the students who have not yet received them. All guests are required to have a ticket (including infants) to enter the venue, but there will be a standby line for guests without tickets to attend the ceremony. After the ceremony starts and as capacity allows, non-ticket holding guests will be allowed to enter the theater. Once the theater is full, no more guests will be admitted—neither with nor without tickets.

Are there accommodations for guests with disabilities?

Yes! Students and guests with disabilities may contact the Learning/Access Center (located in Willoughby Hall) at 718.802.3123 or at with questions regarding special seating for Commencement.
