Pratt is looking forward to continuing to have residence life students on campus for the Summer  2021 semester! We have included up-to-date details on important information for the Summer  semester. 

Please take the time to read and understand all that is contained in this page. We ask that you continue to check this section for updates related to Residence Life during Summer  2021.


Summer residents must either be enrolled in summer courses, have an on-campus job, or have a Pratt sponsored internship requiring them to be on campus/in New York (an internship registered for through Pratt’s Center for Career and Professional Development).

Assignments will be made on a first come/first serve basis and as space is available.

Available room types and cost:

All rooms available are on the lower floors of Willoughby Residence Hall (WRH) making reliance on elevators minimal.  Rooms are de-densified and are single occupancy with 2-3 students sharing a kitchen and bath. The specific types and cost (based on the full summer (4 weeks for Graduate Creative Art Therapy) 

Semi private single space (the former living room of a WRH apartment):      $3375
Single with shared bath (the former bedroom of a WRH apartment:                $3541
Single with private bath:                                                                                                            $3824 

Summer Move In

Move in will take place Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23, 2021 for all residents. In order to maintain a safe/low risk move in process, each student will select an hour time frame in which to obtain their key and move their belongings into their room.

NOTE:  Students enrolled in the Graduate Creative Arts Therapy (GCAT) will have an alternate move-in date of June 15 - 16, 2021 to correspond with their academic class schedule and will schedule their move in date/time accordingly. 

Summer Move Out

All Summer 2021 residents must move out by Saturday, July 31, 2021, unless they also have a Fall 2021 on campus housing assignment.  Summer residents with Fall housing will be able to transition to their Fall spaces in late July/early August.  Information about this process will be shared in June.

Students will need to complete their first Daily Self-Assessment via the Pratt Safe app prior to being granted access to Willoughby Hall (and will complete this assessment daily while living on campus). During the scheduled move in time, each student will be allowed one friend or family member to accompany them to their room AND one additional friend or family member to stay with and unload the vehicle. All students and their friend or family member must have their temperature taken on site, maintain social distance and wear face coverings while in the residence hall. Friends or family members will be verbally asked the health screening questions prior to accessing the building. Friends and family will be required to leave after belongings have been brought into the building.

It is critical that students bring with them only those items essential to living in Willoughby Hall for the semester as well as supplies for the initial move-in quarantine. Here is a link to the suggested list of thing to bring.

During Move-in Quarantine, everyone will be responsible for providing their own food. Shopping after move-in to Brooklyn will not be possible. It's important to pack the groceries, snacks, toiletries, and other essentials you will need for your time in quarantine. If you cannot, grocery deliveries will be coordinated within time and day parameters for residents to place orders. Residential Life and Housing staff will be able to assist with these orders. 

It’s also important to note that once moved in, you won’t be permitted to leave your space at any point during quarantine. This includes, but is not limited to: doing laundry, picking up mail or deliveries, smoking (please note, smoking is not allowed on campus or in any residence hall) and so forth. Facilities will be working with residents to pick up trash as you won’t be able to dispose of it yourself during this time. These measures are in place to help ensure we have a safe start to the spring semester!

Testing and Arrival Quarantine

All students, prior to arrival, must have uploaded via the Pratt Safe app, proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test no more than 3 days prior to arrival and agree to a post arrival test no less than 4 days after arrival. Students will quarantine in their space until results of the post arrival test are received. Further, each student will need to comply with the weekly testing requirements. Pratt will coordinate the post arrival test and subsequent weekly testing at no cost to the student.

Weekly testing will be a crucial part of Summer 2021 Housing. Your first test after moving in will be on Wednesday, May 26th (Monday, June 21 for GCAT). These will be saliva based pool tests and will continue weekly throughout the semester following your initial test. Staff will be available to assist with scheduling and coordination of this process. Once on campus, if you have a positive test result a notification will come as a call from Pratt Health Services. You will first receive a text message that will notify you of the upcoming call. The automated text message will read as follows: Answer the Call: Pratt health staff will be calling you with important information about your health. Please answer the call from Health Services. This is an automated text message, please do not reply. The COVID Coordinator will then reach out to you to begin the process of moving to isolation.

Required Actions

All residents are required to opt-in to receive text messages from Health Services. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Login to your account at If you do not have an account, click the Register button and follow the directions to create one.

  2. Click on your name in the top right of the screen

  3. Select "Edit Your Profile"

  4. Scroll down and check the box for "I would like to receive text message reminders." Make sure your cell phone number is correct in your profile.

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save"

Some students have reported concerns about their ability to get a test within 72 hours before  arrival at Pratt. Please continue to research options in your area. Testing is a changing landscape, and it is likely that result return times will shorten after the holidays. If you find that you are still having difficulty, please contact

Quarantine During the Summer Session

Please know that quarantine periods are still possible even after Move-in Quarantine. Any resident who is identified by contact tracing will be subject to these additional quarantine measures. This includes, but is not limited to suitemates of any resident who test positive and are moved to isolation. This means these residents will have to complete a 10-day quarantine period in their space if their suitemate has moved to isolation. 

Another important note of the Summer 2021 Housing involves the possibility of a full-building quarantine put in place if we see a significant increase in positive cases within the building.. Full-building quarantine involves the implementation of a 10-day quarantine as these are effective means to control the spread of the virus. Since this remains a possibility, staff have ensured plans are in place to coordinate further grocery deliveries and will still be available as a resource to you should these actions be needed.

Please be aware that these metrics will have flexibility to take action sooner than listed above, if it is needed. All instances will be reviewed based on the circumstance by appropriate staff to ensure the safety of residents and the greater Pratt community.


If a student tests positive from the pool test or any other testing source, regardless of symptoms, they would move immediately to isolation housing in Grand Avenue Residence.  The COVID Coordinator will help those students with this process.

EMT staff will be put in place as resources to any residents in isolation housing. Similarly to Move-in Quarantine, food deliveries will be coordinated daily to ensure the health and safety of residents. Residents will be able to return to Willoughby Hall once they are medically cleared. 

As noted by CDC guidelines it is not recommended ill students return home. However please know that any resident may isolate at home or off-campus if their travel allows for their continued quarantine. Residential Life and Housing staff will be able to coordinate this process should you find yourself in this situation and choose to do so.

Mailbox and Addressing Instructions:

Students will receive another email from Residence Life during the week of May 24th that will have campus central mailbox information. This will explain how to address packages and mail coming to campus. Students will not be able to access the Mail Center prior to your initial move-in quarantine period; so do not plan to ship items early.

Room Changes

All students are assigned based on their preference of room type and recognizing that each room within each suite is single occupancy. After all students have completed required arrival quarantines, requests for room changes may be able to be granted based on availability.

The following cancellation of housing assignment has been put in place:

  • Prior to May 8: NO PENALTY 

  • May 8 - May 14: $250 Penalty

  • May 15 - 23 : $500 penalty 

  • NO SHOWS at move in will be assessed a penalty of $500

  • May 24 - May 31: 50% of semester rent penalty 

  • NO REFUNDS of housing after May 31  

  • Note:  Graduate Creative Art Therapy will have an alternate cancellation penalty as follows:

    • Prior to June 1: No Penalty

    • June 1 - 8: $250 Penalty

    • June 9 -16:  $500 Penalty

    • No Shows at Move in will be assessed a penalty of $500

    • June 17-24: 50% of semester rent penalty

    • NO REFUNDS of housing after June 24

  • ANY student dismissed or suspended from the Residence Halls for conduct reasons will not receive any refund 

  • Students who go on Pratt approved Leave of Absence for Medical Reasons will be prorated housing cost from the day of move in to the day of move out 

  • Students who go on a Leave of Absence other than medical will be assessed the penalty as per the above schedule. 

  • Special circumstances will be evaluated individually by the Financial Appeals Committee who can make exceptions to any of the above
