Gonzalo Lopez holds a Masters in Architecture from the Architecture School of Barcelona (ETSAB) and is PhD Candidate in Sustainability and Urban Regeneration at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Currently Adjunct Associate Professor at Pratt Institute, Lopez has taught at the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at CCNY, the Hillier College of Architecture and Design at NJIT, and the New York Institute of Technology.

Lopez is co-founder of knitknot architecture, a collective platform of architects, urban designers, researchers and artists. The collective was awarded in 2015 with the prestigious prize Europan, in Norway, the runner up prize in the City of Dreams Pavilion competition in 2017, finalists of the inaugural Davidson Prize in the UK in 2021 and built El Jicarito School, in Nicaragua, after completing a successful crowdfunding campaign in collaboration with the NGO Seeds of Learning.
