Fashion Design Department to Present Talks by Designers, Curators, and Industry Leaders
Pratt Institute's Department of Fashion Design will present its inaugural fall 2012 design lecture series, titled "Pratt Fashion on 14th" on Mondays from September 17 through December 17, 2012, at the Institute's Manhattan campus at 144 West 14th Street, Second Floor, Room 213. The series will feature talks by esteemed individuals from the world of fashion. The lectures, which begin at 6 PM and conclude at 8 PM, are free and open to the public; however, space is limited so it is recommended that those interested in attending arrive early.
Highlights include a talk by Andrew Bolton, curator at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" on September 17; a talk by designers Daniel Silver and Steven Cox of Duckie Brown on October 15; a discussion on fashion and architecture with Yeohlee Teng and Joerg Schwartz on November 5; and a designer conversation between Jeffrey Banks and Stan Herman on November 12.

McQueen: A Case Study of Curatorial Process
Andrew Bolton, curator at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, will present a lecture on "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," an exhibition he created that attracted 661,509 visitors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011. Bolton's lecture will be followed by a conversation with Jennifer Minniti, chair, Fashion Design, Pratt Institute.

Fashion & Film
Drake Stutesman, Ph.D., adjunct professor of cinema studies at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and editor of Framework: The Journal of Cinema and Media, will present a talk on fashion and film titled "A New Kind of Love." In addition, Jessica Glasscock, research associate at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and adjunct professor at Parsons The New School for Design, will present a talk on fashion and film titled "Future Fatale: Kick-Ass Women of Sci-Fi from Metropolis to The Matrix."

This panel will feature Summer Rayne Oakes, eco-model and entrepreneur, and John Patrick, founder of the groundbreaking ORGANIC line of sustainable and socially-conscious apparel, with Debera Johnson, executive director of the Center for Sustainable Design Studies and director of the Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation, as moderator.
