Would you like to study English in the most dynamic arts and cultural center in the world? Established in 1976, the Intensive English Program (IEP) is located on Pratt Institute’s beautiful Brooklyn, New York campus. The IEP provides academic English language instruction to more than 300 matriculated graduate and undergraduate students annually. In addition, two certificate of English language proficiency programs run under the IEP’s umbrella: the full-time Fall and Spring semester Certificate of English Proficiency (CEP) Program, and the Summer Certificate Program (SCP) in English proficiency.
Study in all of our programs is both challenging and varied, and most instructional content is based in art and design. All classes are small (eleven or fewer students per section), with a strong emphasis on academic skills. The faculty is composed of creative instructors who design and teach their courses as a team. Fall and Spring CEP courses at Pratt Institute meet for fifteen weeks. Summer SCP sessions run for eight weeks, immersing students in the language and culture of New York City. Both certificate programs incorporate studio projects and critiques led by studio mentors who are Pratt graduate students from many majors across the campus. Classroom instruction in all courses is complemented by instruction and independent study in our Language Resource Center, which houses a variety of multimedia resources, and by field trips to local cultural attractions.
