PMPD-279 Cost Estimating: From Pre-Design, Biddin
9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Analyze the different types of cost estimating from pre-design, bidding to final construction. This course provides and overview of cost estimating as a supplemental service beyond the basic services provided by architects/engineers. The class highlights how costs are a reflection of what major trades charge for the scope of work the A/E teams generate. We will review: common errors and how to avoid them, overhead/profit, general conditions, contingencies, escalation, acceleration, material costs, labor costs, new construction vs. renovation cost, and how scheduling goes hand-in-hand with time-value-of-money (TVM). We will examine the rift between price and value and how the CSI Master Format dovetails into and A/E’s design and specifications. In addition, the class offers a rare opportunity to review 2 actual completed projects that sheds light on comparing costs between new construction vs. a LEED-Platinum edifice. Finally, the course discusses concepts of global externalities and how this impacts costs. 4 AIA, LU, HSW.
