Pratt’s M.F.A. program in Fine Arts immerses students in the world of contemporary art supported by a faculty of working artists and community of peers, enriched by the abundance and inspiration of New York. The four-semester, 60-credit curriculum is both rigorous and flexible allowing wide latitude for interdisciplinary exploration among the department’s four areas: painting and drawing; sculpture; printmaking; photography; and integrated practices. Students have individual studios and access to a full range of labs, shops, and studios. There are many opportunities for individual studio visits with guest artists and critics; students also invite the public to see work in progress during Open Studio events. The program culminates in solo thesis exhibitions and the opportunity to participate in a curated show at a Manhattan gallery space. Faculty members are distinguished artists with international reputations and have received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Tiffany Foundation, Joan Mitchell Foundation, Skowhegan, Creative Capital, Art Matters, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Fine Arts alumni continue to make their mark nationally and internationally as artists, educators, and leaders.
