In 2009, the Pratt Design Management program launched CATALYST Strategic Design Review, a publication addressing the strategic value of design.
The mission of CATALYST Review is to stimulate thinking and encourage conversation about the role of creative economies in ensuring an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable future. CATALYST encourages conversation among leaders in design, business, the arts, and social innovation who are interested in creating economic value, advancing equity and assuring environmental stewardship. CATALYST content emphasizes the value of applying the creative design process to the solution of complex challenges which are often considered outside the realm of traditional art and design disciplines.
CATALYST is produced and managed by participants of Pratt’s graduate Design Management and Arts and Cultural Management, including students, alumni, and faculty.
"CATALYST's timely coverage of strategic design and its outcomes, its social and environmental consciousness, its lively and beautifully crafted layouts, its liberal mix of topics makes it unique among publications. These merits are especially noteworthy in the context of academic journals...CATALYST is a pioneer in the field." -Susan Szenasy. Editor in Chief, Metropolis Magazine
