M.P.S. in Art Therapy and Creativity Development

The Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and Creativity Development is an accredited, 60-credit degree program that provides a synthesis of creative, aesthetic, and psychotherapeutic theory and practice. Courses offer an in-depth theoretical framework that integrates personal experience, didactic learning and clinical application. In addition, all courses include Artmaking and movement in service of clinical learning. Students engage in two years of internship and the practicum experience is thoroughly integrated with classroom learning. The Practicum Coordinator works closely with students to secure an internship for both years and students are supported by on- and off-site supervision .

M.S. in Dance/Movement Therapy

The Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy is an accredited, 60-credit degree program that provides a synthesis of creative, dance/movement, and psychotherapeutic theory and practice. Courses offer an in-depth theoretical framework that integrates personal experience, didactic learning, and clinical application. In addition, all courses include dance and movement experiences in service of clinical learning. Students engage in two years of internship and the practicum experience is thoroughly integrated with classroom learning. The Practicum Coordinator works closely with students to secure an internship for both years and students are supported by on- and off-site supervision .

Note to international students: The Low Residency Program format is not eligible an F1 Visa. Other non-immigrants may be eligible for the program. Please contact oia@pratt.edu and ask if you are eligible for the Low Reisdency Format within the Creative Arts Therapy Department.

Degree Requirements


M.P.S. in art therapy and creativity development

The prerequisites for the Art Therapy Master's Program, applicants include: a bachelor's degree, preferably in studio art or psychology. Applicants must have 18 undergraduate credits in studio art, to include course work in drawing, painting, and 3-D media, and 12 credits in psychology, to include course work in abnormal, and developmental psychology. A portfolio of twelve to fifteen slides is required of all applicants (submit online at pratt.slideroom.com). Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview once all required documents have been received. International Students: A TOEFL score of 600 (250 computer or 100 Internet) is required of all international students. No TOEFL waivers will be issued unless student's first language is English.

M.S. in dance/Movement Therapy

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in dance or psychology. Prerequisites are 6 credits in psychology to include, abnormal,and developmental psychology; and 1 cr/15 hours course work in anatomy/kinesiology. Students must also have extensive experience in at least two idioms of dance, one of which must be modern dance. Students must have experience in body/mind modalities, such as meditation, yoga, and body therapy. A written synopsis of dance training and experience must be submitted with the application. Once all required documents have been received, qualified applicants  will contacted to attend a group movement interview in addition to a personal interview.
