How to Apply
Applying for financial aid at Pratt Institute is easy. Students wishing to be considered for need based grants/scholarships, work-study, student and parent loans from federal, state, and Pratt’s financial aid sources must apply/reapply each year. The application process begins in January, a full eight months before the academic year begins and should be completed by February 1st
Starting each January 1st, new and continuing students can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, it helps us determine the amount of assistance each student may be eligible for by evaluating factors such as income, assets, number of family members in the household, and number of family members enrolled in college.
Gather Needed Documents
- Student’s Social Security Number (can be found on Social Security card).
- Student’s driver's license (if any).
- Student’s alien registration number or permanent residence card (if you are not a U.S. citizen).
- Student’s 2008 W-2 Forms and other records of money earned.
- Student’s (and spouse's, if you are married) 2008 Federal Income Tax Return - IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, foreign tax return, or tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia or Palau.
- Parent’s 2008 Federal Income Tax Return (if student is dependent).
- All student’s and parent’s 2008 untaxed income records - Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, welfare, or veterans benefits records.
- All student’s and parent’s most recent bank statements.
- All student’s and parent’s most recent business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond, and other investment records.
Afterward the application has been processed by the Central Processing Center; a Student Aid Report (SAR) with information about your family's finances and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) will be issued. We will in turn use this information to determine each student’s eligibility for the various Federal, State and Institutional need-based Financial Aid Programs. For most financial aid programs, students must be matriculated in one of Pratt Institute’s degree granting programs, be enrolled at least half-time per semester, and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
