Robert Carabay has a Master’s in Library & Information Science from Pratt Institute, and a Bachelor’s in Spanish Literature from Pomona College.
Prior to the Center for Career & Professional Development, Robert worked at Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC) in New York City, a nonprofit organization that funded artist-infrastructure programs around the country. LINC supported programs offering the services and supports that artists often lack—affordable healthcare, live/work space, funding opportunities—and demonstrated sustainable practices. Robert directed the development and redesigns of various websites as well as the launch of an online grant application system for artist space programs.
From 2002 to 2006 Robert worked at the Carpenters/Contractors Cooperation Committee (CCCC) in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was responsible for generating dual-language communications and PR services. Robert wrote a series of articles for Spanish-language local newspapers on issues affecting prevailing wage workers, such as labor laws, workers’ rights, and community issues. He also developed collaborative programs with community partners including the Boys & Girls Club, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and Clark County Legal Services.
Robert has served as a volunteer archivist for the National Archives of the LGBT Center in Manhattan, sings with the Greenwich Village Chamber Singers, and offers pro bono assistance as a content strategist/information architect. He lives in Williamsburg.
