Security and Safety Alerts
SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
To the Pratt Community,
Recent mass shooting around the country including the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting has elevated fear and concern for all people. Pratt shares these concerns and constantly works toward preparing for and/or preventing such tragic incidents. Pratt is an open campus which can make preventing violence more of a challenge. To that end, Pratt's Department of Safety and Security is made up of dedicated security professionals who constantly train to be alert for suspicious activity that could possibly indicate that someone is planning some type of violence against the campus. The Department of Safety and Security also examines each case of violence that occurs around the country to remain up-to-date with methods and modalities used to better assist Pratt in prevention. Furthermore, Pratt enjoys a close working relationship with the NYPD and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in which information, training, and support are shared for all types of incidents.
To learn how to respond to an active shooter situation please click on to the Emergency Response Quick Reference Guide and scroll down to Active Shooter Response Information and click on either or both of the links included. One link consist of a booklet provided by the Department of Homeland Security and the other link is a YouTube video, titled RUN, HIDE, or FIGHT and is a Department of Homeland Security grant funded project of the Regional Catastrophic Planning Initiative. It was produced by the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security and is being widely used for informing people on how best to respond to an Active Shooter.
Respectfully,
William J. Schmitz
Director of Institute Safety and Security
