Program Board (PB) is a branch of Student Involvement consisting of a variety of programming areas which include: Entertainment, Cultural Events, Travel and Recreation, Special Events, Tuesdays in the Union, and Promotions. All members of Program Board are Pratt students, working hard to plan events other Pratt students will be interested in. A part of the mandatory Student Activities fee students pay each year goes to Program Board to cover the events Program Board plans for the campus community. The majority of the events provided by PB are free while trips and events off campus range between $5 and $20. Sign-ups for these trips are usually held online the week prior to the trip.
Mission: The goal of Program Board is to get students out of their rooms and studios for a few hours to take a much needed break from the rigorous academics at Pratt, all while promoting a healthy work/social balance.
The eight current programming areas on Program Board are:
Special Events caters to a multitude of student activities and interests. Hypnotists, magicians, NYC tours, and laser tag are just a few areas students can participate in. Past events have included annual spring and fall festivals, ghost hunts, open mic nights, and mystic events.
Like Special Events, Entertainment brings a variety of activities to campus for students to enjoy. The entertainment chair also coordinates comedians and other live performers, movie nights, and concerts.
Cultural events bring together interesting events and performances to enhance the cultural spirit at Pratt, including lectures, to musical performers, to special presentations. Previous trips have included the United Nations and National Museum of the American Indian. Don't forget the Pratt culture and our annual viewing of Rocky Horror Picture Show around Halloween time. Collaborations also often occur with other student groups such as Queer Pratt and the Pratt Student Diversity Council.
Travel and Recreation
Travel and Recreation provides Pratt students with opportunities to go off campus and participate in activities for free or a minimal fee. Travel and Recreation offers trips to see Broadway shows, museums, and go on unique "food tours," where students are introduced to restaurants in and around the city to taste some one-of-a-kind meals. Past trips have included Broadway shows to Cinderella, Avenue Q, Once, Rent, Wicked and more. Other trips included a Chelsea food tour, NYC Opera, whitewater rafting, and a ski trip.
Tuesdays in the Union
“Tuesdays in the Union” is in charge of implementing and overseeing weekly events in the Student Union. These events occur every week during the lunch hour and provide students with a consistent opportunity to take a break from school, relax, participate in educational activities, and engage with other Pratt students and the campus community. Events are of a more low-key passive nature, including such things as free coffee, crafts, student showcases, cultural spotlights, and collaborations with other campus departments.
Promotions are mainly responsible for making sure everyone knows about upcoming events and what Program Board provides to the campus community. This is done through creating fliers, mailers, TV ads, and updating our online presence through Facebook and the Pratt website.
