As part of the artist team Deux Conceptualiste Noir with Zulema Griffin, work by Sherie Weldon, MFA Thesis candidate, is included in the 2010 Pool Art Fair in Miami Beach. http://www.poolartfair.com/pool_miami_10/artists.html
Their single-channel video, entitled Projected Movement 1, 2010 will be shown on four plasma screens at the fair. Event details are below.
About Projected Movement 1: Deux Conceptualiste Noir invited Kenya (Robinson) to wear their designs, pose and walk around parts of New York City, partly associated with established worlds of finance and European culture, such as Wall Street and Lincoln Center. The performance is inspired by Frantz Fanon's seminal work Black Skin,White Masks that scrutinizes the psychological impact of blackness in predominantly white cultures. The work therefore suggests a critical reading of the feelings of dependency and inadequacy through fashion and body language.
