Family Weekend 2013 Overview
Thursday, Oct 31, 2013 @ 10:30 am
Family Weekend 2013 was held on October 5–6 in the Student Union. Parents and family members started the weekend with a continental breakfast and registration in the Student Union, followed by workshop sign-ups. Some workshops were Inside the Painting Studio, Figure Drawing, Color, Meditation and Creative Visualization, Create your own website, Create your own blog, All you need to know about making felt hats, Make Your Own Pigment, and For Parents of First Year Architecture Students. The tours—Brooklyn Navy Yard Tours and Myrtle Avenue tours—were popular picks. Additionally, the PBS documentary Treasures of New York: Pratt Institute and the Pumpkin Carving contest hosted by Theta Phi Alpha were also going on in the Student Union. In the evening some attended Annie on Broadway. On Sunday, the event ended with the President’s brunch, with included speeches by President Thomas F. Schutte and Helen Matusow-Ayres, Vice President for Student Affairs.
Whether or not you attend the workshops or brunch, family weekend is an opportunity for family members to spend quality time with their students who have been away from home—perhaps for the first time. This is a great way to connect with your student, ask how their semester is going at Pratt, and help revitalize your student with your presence and support. The Parent and Family Program staff hopes you have enjoyed the beautiful campus and your stay in Brooklyn and New York City. We hope you consider coming back and participating in Family Weekend events next year! Please check back with us for more information for next year’s Family Weekend dates.
