	<title>Acclaimed Architect Zaha Hadid to Present Works May 8</title>

	<summary type="html">Start Date:05/08/08 5:00 pm&lt;br/&gt;End Time:05/08/08 7:00 pm&lt;br/&gt;Visionary architect Zaha Hadid will present recent works as part of the School of Architecture’s Spring Lecture Series on Thursday, May 8 at 5 PM in Memorial Hall.  A short Q&amp;A session will follow the presentation. 


&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br&gt;Hadid’s innovative, unconventional creations span the spectrum from large-scale urban architecture to interiors, furniture, and exhibition spaces. Her work has graced cities around the globe and earned her a multitude of awards and prizes. She is one of the youngest winners of the prestigious Pritzker Prize and the first woman ever to receive the honor, considered the highest prize in the field of architecture.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Among her best known projects are the Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein, Germany (1993), the Rosenthal Center of Contemporary Arts, Cincinnati, Ohio (2003), the BMW Central Building in Leipzig, Germany (2005), the Phaeno Science Center in Wolfsburg, Germany (2005), and the Nordpark Cable Railway in Innsbruck, Austria (2007). &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Zaha Hadid will receive an honorary degree as part of Pratt’s Commencement on Friday, May 9.</summary>

	<summary type="html">Start Date:05/05/08 7:00 pm&lt;br/&gt;End Time:05/05/08 9:00 pm&lt;br/&gt;Pratt Institute’s Department of Media Arts will present a juried selection of senior work in narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated styles at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Rose Cinemas on 30 Lafayette Avenue at a 7 PM on Monday, May 5. The screening is free and open to the public though reservations are required and can be made by calling 718-636-3633.

&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;This is the fourth year that BAM is hosting the senior show for the Pratt Department of Media Arts.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Pratt’s Department of Media Arts encompasses photography, film, video, and animation in one academic program in which students elect a specific field of concentration while surveying the department’s other areas. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The Media Arts program emphasizes an awareness of fine arts traditions as well as of the professional disciplines of the contemporary media artist. About one-third of the students work in documentary filmmaking, a third in experimental, and a third in narrative. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The department promotes critical thinking and autonomy across the spectrum of media making. Its graduates are expected to demonstrate excellence in artistic vision and professional skills, innovation, and a contextual understanding of their work in contemporary culture.&lt;br/&gt;</summary>

Join us for this special symposium on archives which will capture the interest not only of SILS students pursuing archival studies, but all SILS students interested in the expanding and rapidly changing world of archives from collections to public expressions across media and information environments.

Friday, May 2nd 5:00-7:00 pm&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;ABOUTH THE SPEAKERS&lt;br/&gt;HOWARD BESSER, Ph.D. and MLS in Library and Information Studies from UC Berkeley, is the Director of Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) and Professor in the Cinema Studies program of the Tisch School at New York University.  His current research projects involve preserving digital public television, preserving and providing digital access to dance performance, preserving difficult electronic works, issues around copyright and fair use, Do-It-Yourself media, and the changing nature of media with the advent of digital delivery systems. His main areas of interest have been Image and Multimedia Databases, the social and cultural effects of information technology, digital library issues, and the development of new ways to teach with technology. Dr. Besser is also actively involved with museums and the art community. His most recent work in this area involves examining issues of organization, access, and longevity for new media art in collaboration with the Electronic Cams with electronic art collections.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;DEBORAH SCHWARTZ is a national leader in the field of museum education, has worked in the museum field for 23 years, as an educator, administrator, researcher, and curator. She is credited with restructuring MoMA’s Education Department, expanding the Museum’s use of educational technologies to enhance museum visitors’ experiences, and building the museum’s programming for families and teenagers.</summary>
