The Washington Post featured recent industrial design department graduate Sarah Waxman in a Sunday, June 13 article about consumerism and design.
Waxman was featured for a project titled "Momento Comburo (Reminder of Consumption)" that was exhibited as part of Pratt Institute and Herman Miller's "Empathy for Culture" booth at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in May 2010. Her series of ceramic vessels were inspired by Momento Mori paintings that were once purchased as reminders of human mortality and served as warning against excessive frivolity. The pieces speak to the production process and the manufactured nature of the consumed.
