Pratt Digital Arts Alumnus Wins First-Ever NYC Condom Wrapper Design Contest
Pratt digital arts alumnus Luis Acosta won the first-ever contest to design the next New York City condom wrapper. His design features a yellow electronic power button symbol on maroon background. More than 15,000 votes were cast in the contest, which was held by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to encourage New Yorkers to practice safe sex and stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The design will be produced in a limited edition of six million and is set for release this year.
Acosta was one of five finalists selected by a panel that included local artists and advertising professionals and public health and social marketing experts on February 11; from February 11 through February 28 New Yorkers were encouraged to vote for their favorites through the Health Department's website. The New York Times featured a story on the the contest and Acosta's winning design here.
