Darkroom Monitor Photo Show - Part II

Friday, Mar 11, 2011 @ 6:00 pm

Part II of the Darkroom Monitor photo show, opening March 11, at Pratt Institute-Manhattan explores themes of day and night and the quiet narratives that transcend the definitions of diurnal and nocturnal.

An opening reception for the artists will be held Friday, March 11, from 6-8pm.

This show presents the work of seven photographers who have worked as part of a collective in the Pratt Manhattan darkroom, one of the few academic "wet" darkrooms left in the city. Many of the photographers have evolved to digital, but present in their yearly photo exhibitions a desire, if not yearning, the craft of making an image-whether that's film or digital.

Show statement:
"DAY/NIGHT, in a sense, represents our "black and white" photo world. It also presents themes of magic, revelation, patterning, life, death, destiny and the fragile surfaces under which they lurk."

The artists, all living in New York, come from diverse international backgrounds. They are: Serge Cashman, Mauro Clerici, Yin Liu, Lieh Sugai, Colin Hough Trappy, Allon Yaron and Ebru Yildiz

The show is being promoted via a dedicated Facebook page, which features an artist's statement each day in the week prior to the opening. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=159219134129966

The show will run until April 8.

Pratt CCPS Gallery is located at 144 W. 14th Street (at Seventh Avenue), on the second floor. The gallery hours are: Mon-Thu 10am-8pm, and Fri-Sun 10am-4pm.
