ARTnews featured cover art by Artist, Author, and Communications Design Alumnus Daniel Clowes in its October issue titled "Where Art Meets Comics." The cover art is taken from "Ghost World," a comic that was authored and illustrated by Clowes in the 1990s. Clowes and his work were featured in greater detail in the accompanying story, which explores the boundary between fine and and graphic novels. Clowes was also recognized by PEN Center USA with a 2011 Literary Award in the category of "Graphic Literature" for his outstanding body of work in graphic literature. PEN Center USA's mission is to stimulate and maintain interest in the written word, to foster a vital literary culture, and to defend freedom of expression domestically and internationally.
