Program Scholarships
Advancing Creative Learning through Internships, Research and International Studies.
This program is designed to support outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership potential and academic excellence in their area of focus within the MSLIS degree. The program supports field experience, research, international studies, health/ medical information and law librarianship providing students with opportunities for professional practice through the practicum course and research projects. Students have special opportunities to demonstrate excellence in the LIS field and enables SILS to recognize outstanding students in a way that advances their careers, enriches their learning experience, and prepares them to be leaders in the information professions.
Special Scholarship awards range from $3,00 to $5,000
Types of Program Scholarships
- Health/ Medical Information: In order to encourage and support students in these areas of study, we offer continuing students program scholarships in the amount of $5,000. Two students for health and two for law will be awarded based on competitive application process. Students should apply during the regular application period for scholarships for continuing students.
- Practicum: A student applying for scholarship proposes a practicum site that must then be approved by the Dean. Although approval is on a individual basis, students are expected to propose practicum sites at high-level institutions recognized for excellence. Students in this program must register for LIS 698 and meet the requirements of that course, and they must also include a letter from the proposed site supervisor which details the nature of site work and its significance.
- Research: Up to three research scholarships will be awarded. Students in this program must register for LIS 699 - Independent Study. Besides meeting the regular requirements of the independent study, students in this program are required to produce either a research paper (minimum of 10,000 words) or a project and paper (5,000 words). The independent study form must be signed by the supervising faculty member.
- International Summer Programs - London and Florence: In order to encourage and support students to broaden their perspectives and to study abroad - we offer tuition scholarship and travel awards for our summer programs in Florence and London.
The program scholarships offer rewarding opportunities for SILS by which we recognize and support student achievement and advancement.
