Biography

Kevin Winkler has held a variety of leadership roles at The New York Public Library (NYPL) during the past twenty years.  For seventeen years he served in several curatorial and administrative positions at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA), including Assistant Director, Chief of the Circulating Collections, and Assistant Curator of the Billy Rose Theatre Division.  A two-term past President of the Theatre Library Association (TLA), in 2010 he received its Distinguished Service in Performing Arts Librarianship Award.  Mr. Winkler is the editor of Their Championship Seasons: Acquiring, Processing, and Using Performing Arts Archives, a volume of TLA’s monograph series, Performing Arts Resources.  He co-chaired TLA’s symposium, Performance Reclamation: Research, Discovery, and Interpretation, held at New York University, and is associate editor of the published proceedings from that event. Mr. Winkler co-authored the entry on performing arts libraries in the International Dictionary of Library Histories (Fitzroy Dearborn). His expertise in theater history led to his curating LPA’s well-received exhibition Original Cast Recordings which was featured in the New York Times and on National Public Radio.
