Master of Science in Art and Design Education

The mission of graduate Art & Design Education is the preparation of artists and designers as accomplished teachers of a diverse population of learners in urban schools, museums, early childhood, and community programs. The curriculum connects practice to pedagogical theory with an emphasis on reflection and critical thinking skills. Teaching art and design is viewed as a creative process modeled upon studio work. Advanced research in related subjects such as arts administration, design, instructional technology, visual literacy, art therapy, and special education may lead to complementary careers.
