Rudy Gutierrez was born in the Bronx, New York and is a Pratt Institute graduate whose artwork for Sony, Harper Collins, Rolling Stone, Verve Records, Arista Records, Ms. Magazine, The NY Times, Scholastic, Viking/Penguin and Playboy, amongst others have been seen worldwide. The award winning artist includes the Dean Cornwell Hall of Fame Recognition Award, Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award, and a Gold Medal from the NY Society of Illustrators amongst his honors and his work has been featured by Communication Arts, Step by Step Magazine, Society of Illustrators Annuals, Society of Publication Designers, and Art Direction Magazine. His exhibitions iinclude the First Annual Anti-Apartheid show at the United Nations, a traveling exhibition Exploring Social Issues in Germany, The World Conference Against Racism in South Africa and he contributed, as well as Co-Curated The Prevailing Human Spirit Exhibition for the victims of the of 9/11 tragedy in NYC. He has “performed” live paintings with Dance, Music, and Kids and Def Dance Jam Workshop on stage with performers of The Lion King and Bring in the Noise, Bring in the Funk among others. In addition to teaching at Pratt and being the Illustration Coordinator, Gutierrez has lectured at various institutions including the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota and has taught at Parsons, as well as in the Syracuse, FIT and Marywood Graduate programs. |
