Biography

After studying the three Ps at Vassar — Poetry, Painting, and Philosophy — Jan sought a vocation that combined his talents for the verbal and the visual: Graphic Design. He received a BA in Communication Design with honors from Parsons School of Design in 1986.

Jan formed Uretsky + Co. in 1990, a multidisciplinary graphic design studio based in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. The studio’s work covers a full range of graphic design, from complete brand identity, packaging, logos, stationery and brochures to web sites, book covers and publication design. Its clients have included KPMG, March of Dimes, The New School, Tor Books and FOEM, the world’s largest music Web label.

Jan has been honored by awards from AGFA, PDN, Print and How. His design work has been published in Print, How, Graphis, DNA Identity, Business Cards 7, American Corporate Identity and 1000 Music Graphics.

Through verse, Platonic dialogue, and Borscht Belt rap, Jan helps each student channel his or her own passions into a personal approach to graphic design.
