Biography

Claudia Sohrens is a German video artist and photographer, based in New York since 1997. She studied Fashion, Fine Art/ Visual Communications and Graphic Design in Hamburg as well as Photography at the International Center of Photography in New York. She has her BA in Communications Design from IN.D, in Hamburg, Germany and her MA in Media and Communications from the European Graduate School in Switzerland, where she is currently enrolled in a PhD Program. She is a recipient of several grants and artist residencies, such as AIM 21 at the Bronx Museum in New York. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Bronx Museum and the Brooklyn Museum as well as at Artists Space in New York, the Electronic Language Festival in Sao Paulo, the Project Space at Kunsthalle Wien, KW – the Institut for Contemporary Art in Berlin, and at Kampnagel KX, and Westwerk e.V in Hamburg. She taught in the Department of Photography and Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts/ NYU and is currently faculty at the School of the International Center of Photography as well as Pratt Institute. Her independent no-budget video documentaries include: “The Art on Fela”, a film in response to the “Black President” Exhibition at the New Museum in New York produced for TSM-TV, Nigeria.
