Biography

Dara Kiese’s research centers around the artistic and architectural avant-gardes in Weimar Germany. She is completing her dissertation on the late Bauhaus at the Graduate Center, CUNY, with a focus on the school’s publications and exhibitions. She has received a number of grants, including a Fulbright fellowship to Berlin and a Getty research travel grant. She worked as a Curatorial Assistant in the Architecture and Design Department at the Museum of Modern Art for the 2009 exhibition “Bauhaus 1919-1933: Workshops for Modernity.” She has presented papers on architectural and design pedagogies at conferences and symposia including the College Art Association annual conference and “Bauhaus Kommunikation” at the Bauhaus Universität Weimar. Her essays on the school’s public relations under Mies, as well as Hannes Meyer’s 1929 Bauhaus Exhibition appeared in Bauhaus Kommunikation: Innovative Strategien im Umgang mit Medien, interner und externer Öffentlichkeit, from the series Neue Bauhausbücher, published by the Bauhaus-Archive Berlin and the Gebrüder Mann Verlag in 2009.
