Biography

Nancy Grimes grew up and studied in the Midwest. In Chicago, she was co-founder of the artists’ space, West Hubbard Gallery. She moved to New York City in 1980, where she painted, wrote about contemporary art and curated several exhibitions. She has exhbited her work locally and nationally, and has written for several art journals, including “Art in America” and “ARTnews.”

Grimes, a still-life painter, is a champion of painting, particulary representational painting. Her monograph on the American symbolist, Jared French, remains one of the only texts on this difficult, underknown artist.
