Biography

Jennifer experiences fashion as running cultural commentary, analysis, conversation. Both hallmark and bellwether of consumer culture, fashion informs and appropriates contemporary art and design. As a practicing designer, educator and consultant, she teaches graduate and undergraduate classes across a broad spectrum encompassing fashion history and contemporary fashion theory and design. She has experience building institutional fashion programs, from curriculum review and development to faculty appointments.


Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design from Philadelphia University and a Masters Degree in Costume Studies from New York University. She worked as a designer for Donna Karan in Manhattan and has helped launch the sustainable Clothespin collection. Her curatorial work has included appointments as a research consultant in ethnographic textiles and modern fashion at the DeYoung Museum and as a curatorial consultant to the Wattis Institute, both in San Francisco. She was assistant chair of Fashion at California College of the Arts, where she also served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Design Studies. Recent teaching appointments have included visiting professorships in Fashion at CEDIM University in Monterrey, Mexico and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.


Jennifer Minniti was named Chair of Pratt Institute's Fashion Design Department in 2011.
