Biography

As a specialist in the Art of the Early Modern period, issues of gender and class have informed Hofrichter’s writings and teaching. She is the author of a monograph on the Dutch genre, portrait and still-life artist, Judith Leyster, numerous articles within Dutch art and feminist studies and has organized and curated several Dutch exhibitions, contributed to exhibition catalogues and has been a consultant to major auction houses.


She is a co-author of the major text, Janson’s History of Art: The Western Tradition (the Baroque and Rococo sections for the 7th and 8th editions), and has been the Dutch Book Review Editor (since 2008) for the Historians of Netherlandish Art (HNA). Hofrichter was a member of the College Art Association’s Committee on Women in the Arts and the Chair of the Jury for the Distinguished Feminist Award (2012).


Besides graduate seminars on Vermeer, Bernini and the Baroque,  Dutch still-life painting and currently(2012), Rembrandt's Women, Hofrichter also teaches undergraduate Survey, Baroque Visual Culture and will be teaching the Undergrad Senior Seminar in the spring 2013 semester: The History of Collecting: meaning, markets and museums.
