Biography

Hoon Kim is a graphic designer and an educator. He established Why Not Smile, an independent graphic design workshop based in New York City. Why not smile focuses on design for art, architecture and cultural clients across various media: printed matter, branding, exhibition design, motion graphics, and websites. He was awarded by AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers, AIGA BoNE, TDC Typographic Excellence, and national ‘Next Generation Design Leader’ from Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Seoul Korea. Hoon has also participated in diverse exhibitions dealing with design, space and sound in New York, London, Lausanne, and Seoul. Hoon has worked for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Practise, Samsung Design Membership, Crosspoint, and Imagedrome, spanning New York City, London, and Seoul. He had taught at RISD and given lectures to numerous universities in Seoul.
