Liberal Arts and Sciences

Courses with these prefixes fulfill the Math/Sci requirements

  • Math and Science (MSCI)
  • Science (SCI)
  • Chemistry (CHEM)
  • Physics (PHYS)

Courses with these prefixes fulfill the Social Science/Philosophy requirements

  • Social Science (SS)
  • Philosophy (PHIL)
  • Critical & Visual Studies (CST) check restrictions-some courses are only for Crit/Vis majors
  • Cultural History (CH) except for CH 300 and CH 400 which are separate requirements (World Civ I and II)

To fulfill your general liberal arts electives, all the courses above apply plus

  • Communications (COM)
  • Humanities and Media Studies (HMS) (except for HMS 101 and 103 which are your required foundation courses)
  • Language courses (Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish)
  • All Institute Courses (AIC)

















Art and Design History courses DO NOT count as liberal arts electives at Pratt, they are considered studio electives!  Yoga and Pilates count also as studio electives, NOT liberal arts!

  • Technics (TECH) includes a wide variety of disciplines
  • Yoga (YOGA), Pilates (PILAT)

Check restrictions and prerequisites; some courses require the permission of the department if they are not in your major course of study.
