Biography

Margaret Kirk, Assoc. AIA is a practitioner, writer, researcher and educator in architectural design.  She is the Principal of KRK, a multi-disciplinary studio in New York.  Her professional experience includes design and project management on projects on all scales from exhibitions to eco-resorts, new construction and renovation.  Her work has been published both as print and exhibitions domestically and internationally and she is a practitioner in New York City and is an award-winning artist and has experience in a wide array of media.

Ms. Kirk is a faculty member at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY teaching graduate and undergraduate media courses.  She was awarded a Development grant for her exploration of systemic sustainability within existing infrastructure.

The focus of her work is informed geometry in architecture and systemic design; architecture that is informed by context and existing infrastructures and the social condition and technology.  She has examined through her work how architecture can adapt to social media, the culture evolved by social media and how existing infrastructure of systems and transportation can affect the form and function of architecture in an increasingly unstructured and decentralized social model.

Also an active writer, she is a regular contributor to d3: dialog, journal for architecture and design, where she serves as an associate editor and is an associate editor for the International Journal for Interior Architecture and Spatial Design with the University of Houston.
