Biography

In his capacity as full time professor Mr. Thayer has taught a range of classes including Drafting and Prototypes, Production Methods, 3D Abstraction, Solidworks, and Sophomore, Junior & Senior Studio. In 2006, the year before receiving tenure, he was named one of the country’s most admired educators by Design Intelligence Magazine. He has stewarded numerous industry projects at Pratt and is currently developing collaborative internship opportunities between corporations and the ID department.

In his professional design work Mr. Thayer has developed projects in lighting, furniture, and house-wares. He remains focused in the field of structural packaging where he has been awarded nine United States Utility Patents for technology developed on behalf of the New Venture Packaging Department of The Estee Lauder Corporation, where he has worked for well over a decade. He has received a number of international awards for innovation in cosmetic packaging.
