Biography

Jeff is the principal and executive vice president of Tanaka Kapec Design Group, Inc. Jeff began his career 1972 at Montalbano Development and continued his professional development at Human Factors Industrial Design. Tanaka Kapec Design Group was incorporated in 1980. He was educated at the School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute.

From 1980 to the present, his work has focused on surgical instruments, medical diagnostic equipment, pharmaceutical packaging, drug delivery systems, technical instruments, office equipment, office furniture, and consumer products. Jeff logged hundreds of hours in the operating room, viewing surgeries with the most renown surgeons in countless divisions including neuro, ENT, gastro, orthopedic, cardio, open heart, OBGYN laparoscopic, minimally invasive, and coronary interventional.


He has designed and developed over 500 products, half of which are related to medical and surgical devices. Jeff is the primary inventor and co-inventor on 35 US utility patents and 10 international utility patents. Recipient of international design awards and publications.


As a designer, he constantly strives to identify new opportunities for clients, develop new technology, create design features that enable the product to perform admirably, create designs that are beneficial to the user and identify realistic manufacturing technologies that make production cost effective. Regardless of the complexity of the issues he tackles, Jeff always strives to make beautiful objects that are a joy to look at, touch and use.
