Capstone
Featured Capstone: A RECYCLING PROGRAM FOR THE NEW YORK CITY GARMENT DISTRICT Susanne Antonucci, Fall 2012
To cap their studies, Urban Environmental Systems students rigorously analyze an approved systemic environmental or design challenge in the urban environment. They do or simulate work of the kind a systems analyst does in the field, producing cogent recommendations that consider the client’s political, physical and ecological obligations and goals. The demonstration can involve original research, a work related project or an extension of course-related work. As the Demonstration of Professional Competence class is an opportunity for students to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills learned in the program, the course is best taken in the student’s final semester.
Applying what they have learned in their Environmental Systems studies, students will research an environmental or design question and report it out to meet the specific needs of a client. Students choose a client and a technical advisor to determine the scope of the research and the format of the final product.
