B.S., University of Illnois At Urbana-Champaign;
Robert Lee Brackett /|\ completed his Bachelors Of Science In Architecture at the University Of Illinois UC with highest honors in 2004. Then in 2007 he furthered his study of architecture and design with a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University in New York, graduating with the AIA Medal for Excellence in the Study of Architecture.
Having spent much of his youth working alongside his father in both his contracting business and on his sustainable organic farm; Robert is familiar with building technologies and practices, and also has a strong appreciation and intimate understanding of the structures and beauties of the natural world. As an undergraduate student Robert worked as a research assistant for Carolyn Dry of Natural Process Design, developing new material technologies with applications from prefabricated building panels to self healing polymers for NASA space craft. This experience contributed greatly to his development as a designer able to combine sensual organic forms with a strong understanding of material properties and tectonics.
Robert professional career traverses the disciplines of architecture, design, fabrication, and technology. He worked as production manager, shop manager, fabricator and designer for Associated Fabrication LLC in Brooklyn, NY. His primary responsibility was to tighten the relationship between the design, digital fabrication, and realization of built projects ranging from small works of art to self intricate furniture, to full residential and retail materials. Since leaving Associated Fabrication Robert offers his expertise in fabrication work flow to designers and architects, helping them to reduce production time and costs with efficient planning and computer modeling. Current projects include designing jewelry and household objects, with his partner Laura Coombs, that take advantage of cutting edge digital production technology. Together Robert and Laura design and develop web applications including social media (www.ffflourish.com), custom blogs, and personal portfolios (www.digitalnouveau.com). As a balance to digital design and production Robert and Laura are also developing a line of simple handmade footwear.
Robert's true passion lies in using his wide array of experience with digital design to help others learn how to incorporate technology into their creative assets. He serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Robert has also been a professor at Columbia University in NY and taught specialized digital design seminars at City College in NY . During his spare time Robert offers private tutoring in digital design.
