BiographyGiuliano Fiorenzoli was born in 1943 in Florence, Italy. Since 1967 he dedicated himself through his work to the promotion of architecture and design as a creative art form. During this period he was directly involved in most of the cultural events of the european Design of the sixties.He moved to the U.S.A in 1969 first to Cambridge Mass. and in 1972 to N.Y.C.He has been living in N.Y.C ever since both teaching and practicing in the field of architecture. As an active participant in the Italian Avant-garde movement of ‘Radical architecture ‘he founded in 1966 the atelier ‘ZZIGGURRAT’in Florence in an effort to reaffirm the freedom of expression of architecture and design from traditional professional practices.He moved to Soho in N.Y.C in 1972. For about ten years his theoretical work in the form of conceptual drawings and models was exihibited in several universities N.Y.C galleries and national international museums. In 1972 G.Fiorenzoli worked with the firm of Conkli&Rossant and designed in 1972 the later built the 1973 Award winning Public Park of Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City.He designed Rainbow Plaza in Niagara Falls N.Y. the winnig first prize for a bi-national competition, in collaboration with R.Abraham. Construction started in 1974. He was the invited designer to the national competition for the Canada National Art Gallery in Ottawa. Representing a pool of private investors he was asked togheter with architect L.Woods to work on a full proposal/ master Plan for the for-seen future of Coney Island Amusement Park in N.Y. Such project received the A.I.A Award in 1985. Involved in the various aspects of the profession, Mr.Fiorenzoli has been giving lectures in various universities such as M.I.T ,Yale, Columbia University and many others. His theoretical work mainly in the form of drawings and conceptual models has been exihibited in N.Y.C and abroad covering a period of twenty years(approx.1966-1986 ). In addition to his more theoretical work, he has designed and built houses, parks, gardens, restaurants, museums, residential interiors. His work has been published in Progressive Architecture ,Arca , Abitare, Domus, Controspazio, Columbia University Press, Landscape Architecture,Casabella,the New York Times and others. Academic: Mr.Fiorenzoli has served the School of Architecture here at Pratt Institute since 1972 in all aspects of the curricum in both Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He has offered courses in architectural Design , Representation, Architectural Theory and History , The Rome Program. He is currently a full time -tenure Professor and teaches at the moment Design Studio in 4th.year and an History course. He has been asked through his academic carrier to acquire a variety of academic positions as member of the School P.E.E.R Evaluation Committe, Curriculum Committe, Chair’s appointment Committee etc. a)Faculty Representative 1983 b)Coordinator for publications.1980 c)Faculty Governing committe. 1992-1994. d)Coordinator for Vertical studio. 1995-1998. e)Faculty affairs Representative. 1997. f)Graduate Architecture Committee 2001. In addition he has taught Architectural Design in the Master Program at Columbia University , N.J.I.T ,and other archiecture related subjects at universities such as Parson School of Architecture, Temple University, M.I.T the Center for Urban Studies in N.Y.C by P.Eisemann. He has given lectures at Yale, M.I.T,Columbia,Cooper Union, Parson, Max Protech Gallery N.Y.C,Venice Biennale, Italy , Mexico City, Frankfurt Germany, San Paulo du Brazil, Shanghai, China. Awards: 1969 M.I.T Fellowship 1972 First prize. Rainbow Plaza. Bi-national Competition. 1973 Progressive Architecture Award.Myriad Gardens. Oklahoma City. 1978 A.I.A Certificate Urban Design Team .
