Biography

Sideya Sherman is a Senior Planner at the Planning Center at the Municipal Art Society in New York City.  Responsible for advancing the mission of the Planning Center by providing technical assistance to communities; advocating with elected officials, city agencies, community groups and community boards; researching issues of relevance; writing articles and other persuasive materials; establishing partnerships with like-minded groups; providing advice and support to other Planning Center staff and assisting the Director of the Planning Center as needed.
•    Project Manager for the Livable Neighborhoods Program. A citywide capacity building program for grassroots community-based planners. Contribute chapters to training toolkit, help conceptualize workshops, teach economic development course and manage program logistics.
•    Coordinate the MAS CITI Youth Program, a program that connects high school students to their local community board. Help introduce students to basic GIS, civic participation and democratic decision-making.
•    Help coordinate Imagine Flatbush 2030, a community-visioning project. Worked with the Flatbush community to create a sustainability agenda through a series of public meetings. Help introduce sustainability concepts to community members; facilitate community meetings and synthesize community information.
