Her research interests include community development, disaster mitigation, gender issues, and informal land and housing markets in developing countries. Ayse recently published with S. Akcar and P. Gophalan) Grassroots Women’s Participation in Disaster Relief and Recovery, a special issue of SEEDS, the journal of Population Council. She has the Fall 2005 issue of Progressive Planning Magazine on arts, culture and community development, and is working on a paper that looks at different partnership models between major arts institutions and community groups. She is working on a research project that explores the distributional impacts of the disaster mitigation projects on low income settlements in Istanbul, Turkey. She completed a handbook and an exhibition for the World Urban Forum in Vancouver in June 2006 that highlighted the importance of securing public spaces for grassroots women’s organizing using examples from different parts of the world. |
