Latin Pratt
Latin Pratt is a research organization founded and led by a diverse group of students studying at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture in New York City. Latin Pratt’s work and vision has been recognized internationally by several institutions with whom we are collaborating for study abroad programs and other types of cultural exchange. These include Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala, and Universidad de Rosario in Argentina. Our collective vision is to build new spaces of discourse and critique for the expanding fields of architecture, urban planning, and design in Latin America; specifically focusing on new technologies. This summer, Latin Pratt is preparing a traveling exhibition entitled “Breaking Borders: New Latin American Architecture” that is set to inaugurate on September 8, 2011. The exhibition aims to investigate and showcase the latest work of a series of accomplished and highly-contemporary Latin American architects through showcasing their technologically advanced works; opening a dialogue across boarders, countries and cultures. Over forty offices are confirmed to showcase their work, some of these include Giancarlo Mazzanti, Angelo Bucci, Michel Rojkind, and Marcelo Spina. The exhibition, consists of digital media and analogue representations, and a cross-communication with the Latin American firms. Therefore the digital component of “Breaking Borders” is imperative to the type of openly communicative and interactive experience Latin Pratt seeks to establish with this exhibition. As we open new spaces for discourse and critique, we hope to make these spaces participatory and excitable.
