Information Technology

The IT Division is comprised of four departments: Academic Computing, Enterprise Systems, Educational Technology and the Web Group. While each of the departments has a distinct set of roles at Pratt Institute, the team members of each department work in a highly cooperative manner. This cross-departmental meshing ensures a well integrated structure yielding the most benefit from the resources available.

Mission of the TAC

To provide advice and recommendations to the Vice President of Information Technology and CIO in support of the Division of Information Technology’s Strategic Plan.

To advise the Division of Information Technology regarding the development of IT initiatives and ongoing maintenance and enhancements of technology infrastructure, which are designed to deliver efficient and effective centralized information technology services to the multiple constituencies of Pratt Institute.

To function as the entity of the Institute community that reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations about information technology services issues to the Vice President of Information Technology & CIO in support of the Strategic Plan. Divisional Goals

  1. Develop and maintain good practice, governance, security and system architecture campus-wide.
  2. Provide leadership in the selection and appropriate use of technology.
  3. Articulate and clarify the role of IT in processes supported with technology.
  4. Empower users of technology at Pratt to identify and apply appropriate technology to their processes.
  5. Build clarity and appropriateness for the various internal and external users of the institutional window that is Pratt IT.

Projects

Below are some of the projects IT is currently working on.  Projects initated by the TAC are noted with bold italics:

  • Active Admissions - Online admissions tool to collect applicant data
  • Active Directory Rollout - Users will now login to the network instead of individual computers
  • Alumni Online Community - Largely a Development project with IT overseeing security/logins, etc.
  • Digital Messaging System (DMS) - Network-based plasma screens for messaging/display of artwork
  • Foundation Dept. Training (Adobe Tools) - Adobe-specific training as needed by Foundation faculty
  • Imaging/Scanning (Enrollment, HR, Intl Students) - Campus paperless initiative
  • iPhone Application Development - Bringing web-based (myPratt) applications to mobile phones
  • Lynda.com Implementation - Online training tools for MS Office, Adobe and other software
  • Mahara Implementation (ePortfolio) - Allows students to keep an archive of all work online
  • Online Course Design - For pilot courses in Communications Design and Facilities Mgmt.
  • Parent's Module - Allows parents (with student approval) to see billing, courses, grades, etc.
  • Pratt Card Expansion - The PrattCard will be rolled out to merchants on Myrtle and beyond
  • Retention Alert Project - The new Datatel module will be used to reduce attrition
  • UPS Replacement - First of 2 part project to bring redundant/clean power to servers
  • VoIP Implementation - New network-based phone system with Unified Communications capabilities
  • Website Rollout - new pratt.edu
